Job summary

The University of Dubuque invites applications for a full-time Mathematics faculty member for Fall 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate mathematics courses and contribute to curriculum design, student success initiatives, and innovative approaches to mathematics education across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Mathematics or closely related field required.
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Emphasis in statistics or applied mathematics preferred.
  • Experience in teaching mathematics across undergraduate courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate mathematics courses including calculus and statistics.
  • Maintain a full-time teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year.
  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered learning experiences.
  • Advise and mentor students through undergraduate research and opportunities.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation, and department service.

The University of Dubuque is a growing, faith-based University thatis seeking a Full-time Faculty in Mathematics for Fall2027.

Position Summary:

This is a unique opportunity for a full-time Mathematics facultymember to contribute to a vibrant and growing program that servesstudents across a wide range of academic disciplines. Thesuccessful candidate will play a central role in teachingundergraduate mathematics courses, including calculus, statistics,quantitative reasoning, and other foundational mathematics courses- while helping to shape curriculum, support student success, andadvance innovative approaches to mathematics education.

We are seeking an educator who brings energy, creativity, and apassion for mentoring students, and who is excited to createengaging learning experiences that demonstrate the relevance andbeauty of mathematics across disciplines and in the world aroundus.

Primary Responsibilities:
Mission

Engage fully with the University's mission through excellence inteaching and advising, ongoing scholarship and professionaldevelopment, and active service to the campus and broadercommunity

Teaching and Advising
  • Maintain a full-time credit load of 24 credit hours peracademic year, in collaboration with the department and the Officeof the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA)
  • Participate in regular assessment and evaluation to fostercontinued pedagogical growth
  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered learningexperiences that inspire curiosity, quantitative reasoning, andmathematical confidence. Leverage innovative and evidence-basedteaching practices to support diverse learners and evolvingeducational technologies
  • Foster problem solving, critical thinking, and analyticalreasoning while helping students apply mathematical concepts toreal-world contexts and across disciplines
  • Support students outside the classroom through regularlyscheduled office hours and mentor students through academicadvising, undergraduate research, internships where appropriate,and other experiential learning opportunities
Scholarship and Professional Development
  • Pursue an active scholarly or creative agenda appropriate tothe discipline and share outcomes through publications,presentations, or other scholarly activities
  • Build and maintain a professional portfolio for advancement inrank and tenure
  • Participate in campus professional developmentopportunities
  • Maintain awareness of evolving disciplinary standards,pedagogical best practices, and emerging technologies inmathematics education
Service
  • Serve as a key contributor in developing and strengthening themathematics curriculum, student success initiatives, andinterdisciplinary collaborations
  • Participate in and contribute to all department meetings,faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements
  • Serve on and contribute to academic and/or University-widecommittees
  • Assist in student recruitment and retention activitiesthroughout the academic year
  • Represent the University through professional organizations,conferences, outreach activities, or community partnerships relatedto mathematics and mathematics education
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VPAA's office ordepartment head in support of the University's Mission
Position Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate a passion for teaching, mentoring, and contributingto a collaborative and innovative academic environment
  • Exhibit expertise in mathematics through completed courseworkor qualified experience
  • Design and apply instructional strategies that actively engagestudents and promote deep conceptual understanding
  • Teach students effectively with a wide range of mathematicalpreparation and learning backgrounds
  • Communicate and collaborate clearly and effectively withstudents, staff, and faculty members
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments andmaintain an active gradebook
  • Integrate appropriate instructional technologies and adapt tochanges in educational practices and standards
  • Practice professional and collegial behavior, culturalcompetency, and inclusive approaches in all circumstances
Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Mathematics or a closely related fieldrequired; Doctoral degree preferred
  • Emphasis in statistics or applied mathematics preferred
