Job summary

The University of Dubuque seeks a full-time Faculty in Nursing with a student-centered approach and experience in obstetrics, community health, and/or psychiatric nursing. The ideal candidate will mentor undergraduates in research and career preparation while teaching in both clinical and classroom settings.

Responsibilities include maintaining a 24-credit-hour annual load, ongoing assessment, mentoring students, and contributing to scholarship, service, and campus community engagement.

Qualifications

  • MSN required; Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Experience in medical-surgical, obstetrics, community health, and/or psychiatric nursing.
  • Strong teaching, mentoring and advising abilities.

Position Summary:

The University of Dubuque seeks a student-centered educator withexperience in obstetrics, community health, and/or psychiatricnursing with a willingness to innovate and excel in teaching. Theideal candidate will foster a supportive learning environment whilementoring undergraduates in independent research and careerpreparation. The faculty member will be responsible for bothclinical and classroom teaching and contributing to an alreadystrong academic program.

Primary Responsibilities:
Mission

Engage fully with the University's mission through excellence inteaching and advising, ongoing scholarship and professionaldevelopment, and active service to the campus and broadercommunity

Teaching and Advising
  • Maintain a full-time credit load of 24 credit hours peracademic year, in collaboration with the department and the Officeof the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA)
  • Participate in regular assessment and evaluation to fostercontinued pedagogical growth
  • Respond to changes in student learning styles and technology byemploying diverse teaching methods
  • Be an active and present member of the campus community bysupporting students outside of the classroom during regularlyscheduled office hours
  • Advise students on course selection, career pathways, andvocational goals as well as support student research, internships,and experiential learning opportunities
Scholarship and Professional Development
  • Maintain a scholarship agenda whether through publications,conference presentations, artistic exhibitions or performances,formal studies or continuing education
  • Build and maintain a professional portfolio for advancement inrank and tenure
  • Participate in campus professional developmentopportunities
  • Maintain any required professional certifications or licensurein the appropriate discipline
Service
  • Participate in and contribute to all department meetings,faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements
  • Serve on and contribute to academic and/or University-widecommittees
  • Assist in student recruitment and retention activitiesthroughout the academic year
  • Represent the University in professional associations,conferences, or community partnerships related to the facultymember's field
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VPAA's office ordepartment head in support of the University's Mission
Position Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate expertise in the particular academic disciplinebeing taught
  • Develop and use teaching methods that engage students andsupport their learning
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with students and providetimely feedback on assignments
  • Adapt to changes in the educational landscape, including, butnot limited to new technologies and educational standards
  • Maintain professional and collegial behavior
  • Strong organizational skills, including managing a flexibleschedule, multiple projects and student needs
Qualifications:
