St. Charles Community College invites qualified candidates to apply for the full‑time Communications Faculty position to begin Fall 2026 for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Courses will include general education requirements, Oral Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication and Argumentation and Debate, as well as other Speech Communication, Mass Communication or Journalism courses as needed. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, student learning, assessment, and the use of technology in the delivery of instruction to improve student learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the use of varied teaching techniques that help students develop critical thinking, research skills and understand the relevance of history in their lives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Faculty are responsible for instruction, grading, record‑keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional obligations.
• Instructors should expect to meet all deadlines and to use standard software, including the Microsoft Office suite, as appropriate.
• Instructors must conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
• Impart expertise, enthusiasm, and creativity in the instruction of communications content to a diverse student population with various learning styles and abilities.
• Effectively prepare and present course content, drawing upon disciplinary knowledge, skills, theories, issues, research, and applications to design engaging and effective learning experiences.
• Maintain the appropriate number of office hours at times of day convenient for students.
• Provide meaningful feedback and timely responses to students' work and questions.
• Meet all division, department, and college deadlines.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and report attendance as required.
• Keep careful grade records throughout the academic term.
• Attend scheduled faculty meetings and training sessions.
• Perform ongoing student, program, and college assessment activities, including analysis of course assessments, evaluations, and data to engage in continuous improvement to enhance student success, retention, and completion.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Speech Communication, Communication, or Mass Communication.
• At least 18 hours of approved coursework in Speech Communication, Communication, or Mass Communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Speech Communication, Communication, or Mass Communication.
• Community College Teaching Experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in online teaching and are Quality Matters (QM) certified.
