Job summary

Centerville Post Acute is seeking a Dietary Cook to prepare nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in a healthcare setting. You will follow approved menus, adhere to dietary restrictions, and ensure proper portion sizes and temperatures.

Working with the dietary team, you will label and store food safely, help with deliveries, keep the kitchen sanitary, and support staff to provide high-quality meals on a tight schedule.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking experience preferred; healthcare, long-term care, or institutional food service experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic food preparation and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow menus, recipes, and special dietary instructions.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and carry food supplies and kitchen equipment.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals and snacks according to the approved menu and standardized recipes.
• Follow residents’ special diets, food allergies, and dietary restrictions accurately.
• Prepare food according to proper portion sizes and consistency requirements.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served at scheduled times.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and follow safe food-handling procedures.
• Follow all federal, state, and facility food safety and sanitation requirements.
• Properly label, date, store, and rotate food items.
• Monitor food supplies and notify the Dietary Manager of items that need to be ordered.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Clean and sanitize cooking equipment, utensils, work surfaces, and storage areas.
• Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries as needed.
• Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and quantity.
• Work cooperatively with dietary staff, nursing staff, residents, and facility management.
• Demonstrate a courteous and respectful attitude toward residents and coworkers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Administrator.
