Job description

Job Description

Provide supervision over the health, welfare, and safety of inmates, staff, and the public within a secured jail facility with a 56-bed capacity. Ensure compliance with department policies and Department of Correction standards for a county correctional facility.

Responsibilities
  1. Respond to medical emergencies within the facility.
  2. Be knowledgeable in all county and jail policies, procedures, and operations.
  3. Proficient in the use of jail and State computer systems.
  4. Maintain safety and security, including searching inmates, property, and the entire jail.
  5. Keep accurate logs and updated files.
  6. Verify, administer, and log medications.
  7. Conduct daily strip searches of work release inmates upon return from work.
  8. Monitor volunteers providing activities for inmates.
  9. Attend to the daily needs of inmates.
  10. Serve as a bailiff for court and perform occasional transports.
  11. Receive training on federal, state, and local laws applicable to law enforcement and detention facilities, including correction standards.
  12. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by department heads.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. At least 1 year of post-secondary education in law enforcement, corrections, sociology, or a related field, plus 2 years of related experience, OR
  2. High School/GED diploma with 4 years of related experience.
  3. Current First Responder Certification preferred.
  4. Ability to use judgment and problem-solving skills with inmates.
  5. Ability to react effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
  6. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Maintain a professional attitude.
  8. Satisfactorily pass a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and background check.
  9. Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, law enforcement, agencies, and the public.
  10. Develop skills in the use and care of jail equipment.
Compensation and Benefits

Entry salary ranges from $25.04 to $28.07 per hour, depending on qualifications, with earning potential up to $35.29 per hour. Additional shift differentials are paid. Benefits include 12 paid holidays and a 12-hour rotating shift schedule allowing 7 days off out of 14. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.
