Job Summary

Applications received from this posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies with the Minnesota Department of Corrections at its Minnesota Correctional Facilities in either the Corrections Officer 1 (CO1) or Corrections Officer 2 (CO2) job classification. The level of the position filled will be determined based on the selected applicant's qualifications.

This position provides for a controlled setting which ensures a safe and secure environment for people who either work, visit, or reside within the correctional facility. To incorporate an integrated approach to individual management and programming that engages incarcerated individuals in a process of change. To engage incarcerated individuals in the transition process from the point of intake through the incarceration period which prepares the individuals for successful release into the community.

This position will have direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:

CO1: You must be a current Minnesota Department of Corrections employee with permanent or probationary status in the CO1 job classification and be eligible to transfer, demote, or be rehired to the CO1 job class; and you must be able to possess a firearm; and you must possess a valid driver's license as it may be required for specific job assignments.

CO2: You must be a current Minnesota Department of Corrections employee with permanent or probationary status in the CO2 job classification and be eligible to transfer, demote, or be rehired to the CO2 job class; and you must be able to possess a firearm; and you must possess a valid driver's license as it may be required for specific job assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • At least six (6) months of experience as a CO1
  • Experience as a CO2
Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components may consist of a tuberculosis screening, commercial drivers license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance. The selected finalist may also be required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position.

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
