Job summary

Salvation Army Tucson is seeking a reliable Cook for its Older Alaskan’s Program (Meals on Wheels) and McKinnell House Homeless Shelter. You will assist in meal prep, ensure proper portioning, sanitation, and safe storage under the supervision of the Lead Cook and Food Service Manager.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 2-3 years of cooking experience, Serve Safe and food handler credentials, and flexibility to work weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• 2-3 years’ experience as a Cook.
• Current Serve Safe certificate or willingness to acquire within 60 days.
• Current food handler’s card or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Reliable means of getting to place of work.

Responsibilities

• Prepares foods (hot or cold) per planned menu cycle.
• Controls portions to minimize waste.
• Maintains quality in content, texture and temperature.
• Records all menu substitutions.
• Meets production timeframes.
• Stores foods safely and sanitarily.
• Uses appropriate cleaning chemicals.
• Operates dishwasher and cleans equipment daily.
• Cleans and stores pots, pans, and utensils.
• Cleans work area and equipment.
• Receives and stores food and supplies properly.
• Reports equipment issues to Lead Cook promptly.
• Notifies supervisor of stock or spoilage concerns.
• Attends department meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Other duties by Food Service Manager or supervisor.
