Job summary

The Salvation Army Older Alaskan’s Program seeks a part-time Cook to assist in preparing and serving meals for Older Alaskans and shelter residents. Under supervision, you will maintain a clean kitchen and ensure compliance with food safety standards, while supporting inventory control and timely meal service.

Qualifications include a HS diploma or equivalent, 2–3 years cooking experience, Serve Safe and food handler credentials or willingness to obtain them within specified timelines, plus

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–3 years cooking experience preferred.
• Serve Safe certificate or willing to acquire within 60 days.
• Food handler’s card or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends.
• Reliable means of getting to work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare foods hot or cold per pre-planned menu.
• Ensure meals are served with proper portions to minimize waste.
• Maintain food quality including texture and temperature.
• Record menu substitutions as needed.
• Meet production time frames.
• Store foods safely and sanitary.
• Clean and sanitize equipment daily and keep area neat.
• Assist with stock and inventory as directed.
