Belcan Corporation in Brisbane, CA (Hybrid) seeks a Full Stack Turbomachinery-Responsible Engineer to own hardware development from concept through high-rate production across Parallax PE-10 components, in collaboration with REs and Analysts to define interfaces and loads.

Requirements: 6–8 years in turbomachinery/turbopump design, CFD/FEA and 2D/3D CAD; turbine aerodynamics, blowdown systems, pressure vessels; Bachelor's in Mechanical or Aerospace, Master’s preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; Master’s/PhD preferred.
• 6–8 years turbomachinery or turbopump design experience.
• Experience with start systems, blowdown, and pressure-vessel components.

Responsibilities

Department: Structural & Mechanical Engineering

Employment Type: Contractor full-time, convertible to salaried full-time.

Scope & Ownership

Owns the start system: the high-pressure air reservoir and blowdown system, the starter turbine (air-driven expansion/impulse turbine), and the starter power coupling to the rotor. Crossover: turbomachinery, mechanical systems, controls.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• Master’s or PhD preferred

Experience

• 6-8 years in turbomachinery / turbine, turbo-expander or turbopump design, or a turbomachinery PhD plus ~3 years
• Small-turbine aerodynamic and mechanical design; pressure systems; couplings/clutches

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other REs to define interface requirements and manage coupled interactions
• Collaborate with Analysts to derive loads, environments, and response characteristics of your hardware across its operating envelope
• Develop and execute test and qualification plans for your hardware
• Analyze test and qualification data to derive margins and iterate on designs
• Collaborate with Production to develop and execute prototype, low rate, and full rate production of your hardware while balancing performance, cost, and complexity
• Flex across multiple disciplines and scopes as necessary
