Job summary

Intramotev in St. Louis, MO is hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer on the Controls team to own trip planning, dispatching, and onboard execution across server and vehicle components.

You'll collaborate with Perception, Embedded and Applications teams in a safety-critical, hands-on role that touches real rail vehicles. Expect a collaborative, dense, engineering-focused environment and frequent domestic travel.

Qualifications

• Approximately 2 years of professional software engineering experience shipping production software.
• Strong problem-solving ability to break down ambiguous problems and drive to a working solution.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms and maintainable systems design.
• Experience in one or more languages: Python, C, C++, Rust, Go, MATLAB/Simulink or ability to ramp to a new language quickly.
• Comfort with networked systems spanning server and vehicle contexts.
• Discipline in testing: unit and integration tests with regression tests when fixing bugs.
• Proficiency with Git in a collaborative workflow; branching, merging, PRs, code reviews.
• Comfort in a Linux command-line environment.
• Fluent use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) in real work.
• Willingness to expand into new technical areas and collaborate across disciplines.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship not provided).

Responsibilities

• Trip Planning & Dispatch: Design server-side modules to plan and administer trips, dispatch plans, track progress, and report status.
• Onboard Execution: Build and maintain onboard modules that run on vehicles to execute plans safely.
• Prototyping & Hardening: Prototype quickly and harden production-quality code.
• Messaging & Delivery Guarantees: Build real-time messaging with appropriate delivery guarantees.
• Data Integrity: Manage track/vehicle data and interfaces with versioning and integrity checks.
• Collaboration: Partner with Perception and Embedded/Application teams to integrate autonomous capabilities.
• Engineering Practice: Write tests, verify behavior, fix bugs, and participate in code reviews.
• Field Support: Support field testing and integration on physical rail vehicles.
