Job summary

Manulife is seeking a full-stack software engineer to join the Document Analytics team in Boston. You will design and implement end-to-end solutions spanning frontend React apps and backend services, APIs, and data integrations.

You will collaborate with product, architecture, and operations to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable software. This role emphasizes modern tech, testing, and continuous learning in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building both front-end and back-end applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with React and JavaScript/TypeScript, along with HTML and CSS.
• Professional backend development experience using Go/Golang, C#/.NET, or Java.
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming APIs and web services.
• Experience working with Kubernetes and containerized applications.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architecture, testing, and maintainable code.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to evaluate requirements, recommend technical approaches, and estimate level of effort.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• A continuous-learning mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain modern full-stack applications using React, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS on the front end.
• Develop reliable, scalable, and secure backend services using Go, C#, and/or Java.
• Design and develop RESTful APIs, services, and integrations for data access and analytics.
• Build and maintain efficient database solutions with PostgreSQL and related data tech.
• Translate requirements into effective technical solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with UX/design to deliver high-quality user experiences.
• Assess technical requirements and provide development estimates.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.
• Develop unit and integration tests for reliability and quality.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and collaborative practices.
• Work with Kubernetes and cloud-native tech to support deployments.
• Utilize GitHub Copilot and modern tools to boost productivity.
• Continuously explore new technologies to improve products and engineering.
