Manulife/John Hancock is seeking a Lead Engineer for Agentic Solutions & Automation in Boston. You will drive strategic initiatives to advance agentic platforms and intelligent automation across North American Wealth, delivering measurable improvements in engineering effectiveness and business outcomes.

You will own the agentic SDLC design and guide reusable platform capabilities, governance, and risk controls in a regulated financial services context.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience in enterprise platforms or transformation programs.
• Experience designing and delivering distributed applications, APIs, event‑driven systems, and cloud‑native services.
• Experience with AI-enabled applications, agents, or workflow automation including retrieval, orchestration, and structured outputs.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to accelerate adoption of agentic platforms and intelligent automation across North American Wealth.
• Own the design and delivery of key components of the agentic SDLC, improving Developer Experience.
• Partner with engineering, product, operations, risk, compliance, and business teams to identify and deliver high‑value agent use cases.
• Develop and adopt reusable platform capabilities, reference architectures, patterns, tools, and integrations for secure and efficient agents.
• Establish and govern engineering standards, governance for identities, data protection, and lifecycle management in partnership with stakeholders.
• Design production‑grade agentic systems using orchestration, retrieval, tool use, and human‑in‑the‑loop patterns.
• Evolve observability and operational practices to measure quality, safety, reliability, latency, cost, and adoption across the solution lifecycle.
• Lead technical workshops, training, and mentoring to raise organizational capability across development teams.
• Evaluate models, frameworks, and vendors; provide data‑driven recommendations to senior leadership.
