Job summary

SECU in Shallotte, NC, seeks an Experienced Mortgage Loan Specialist to manage the full real estate loan process across delivery channels. You will assess credit, underwrite, counsel home buyers, gather documentation, and coordinate closings with the Real Estate Lending Processing Center.

Responsibilities include maintaining knowledge of loan products and policies, staying current on lending regulations, and supporting branch staff with mortgage needs to grow loan volume.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of Real Estate Lending (RELP) courses and exam before role start.
• Minimum 2 years mortgage lending experience preferred.
• Must be eligible for NMLS registration as an active MLO.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Compliance with SECU loan policies and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Receive and assist in completing real estate loan applications and be the primary contact for applicants.
• Underwrite real estate loan applications including credit, repayment ability, collateral, and risk within tiered limits.
• Verify income documents and assess approval/denial decisions.
• Counsel home buyers and coordinate documentation for initial loan approval.
• Stay current on market trends, rates, and lending policies to inform members.
• Assist with servicing of existing mortgage and home equity loans.
• Collaborate with RELO VP/SVP on training and loan approvals.
• Support branch staff and provide mortgage guidance to cultivate referrals.
