Job summary

Vaco is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to own the full accounting function for a private technology company in the Dayton area. This role blends transactional work with financial reporting in a collaborative, smaller-company environment.

The successful candidate will lead month-end and year-end closes, manage AP/AR, prepare GAAP-compliant statements, and work with outside accountants during audits. Hybrid onsite/remote schedule offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong hands-on general ledger and month-end close experience.
• Experience independently preparing financial statements.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience managing AP, AR, reconciliations, and transactional accounting.
• Experience supporting external tax, accounting, and/or audit processes.
• Comfortable independently owning the accounting function in a small or midsized business environment.
• QuickBooks experience.
• Previous experience owning the full accounting function for a smaller company.
• Cash-to-accrual conversion experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including AP, AR, invoicing, collections, and transaction processing.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and reporting.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage revenue recognition, customer invoicing, and accounts receivable.
• Support the transition from cash-basis to accrual-basis accounting.
• Coordinate with external accounting and tax professionals and support annual audit preparation.
• Manage payroll accounting, commissions, 401(k) activity, and related payroll taxes.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
• Manage day-to-day banking activities and related reporting requirements.
• Partner with leadership and outside financial advisors on accounting and reporting matters.
