Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Fuel Cycle Nuclear Engineer to advance storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive materials. You will join the NMPTSA group within the Integrated Fuel Cycle Section and contribute to R&D efforts across waste management programs.

The role involves solving complex technical problems, developing analytical methods, and coordinating documentation and mechanical analysis of systems.

Qualifications

• PhD with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an MS with 7 years, or a BS with at least 8 years in Nuclear Engineering or related field.
• Experience in nuclear fuel cycle, storage, transportation, and waste management.
• Ability to perform detailed analyses and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

• Independently solve complex technical problems in spent nuclear fuel waste management.
• Develop analytical methods and technologies across storage, transportation, and disposal.
• Coordinate documentation, design processes, and mechanical analysis of systems.
• Support evaluation, design, and analysis tasks in testing, fuel cycle, security, and fusion projects.
• Prepare technical papers and proposals for sponsors and internal reviews.
