Sumitomo Drive Technologies is seeking a qualified Import/Export Compliance Specialist in Chesapeake, VA. The role focuses on customs compliance and FTZ performance, handling international and domestic transactions and audits.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in a related field and at least 5 years of FTZ experience, with strong Excel/Access skills and a current or in-progress US Customs Broker License. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package and a stable full-time role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, supply chain management or equivalent experience.
• Five (5) years of import/export clearance, compliance, and auditing in an FTZ setting.
• Knowledge of FTZ principles, U.S. Export Administration Regulations; U.S. Customs Regulations and HTS rules.
• Familiar with compliance software applications.
• Strong Excel and Access skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Current US Customs Broker License or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Prepare/file timely reports with Customs, FTZ Board, Grantee and SMA management.
• Perform freight, FTZ and customs audits to meet compliance requirements.
• Provide export classifications and determine license requirements for transport.
• Apply for export licenses when required.
• Maintain customs procedures manuals, audit records, rates, and shipments.
• Identify delays and suggest solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Provide compliance reporting and documentation for supply chain.
• Develop processes to improve FTZ performance and compliance.
• Create compliance documentation for Distribution Center operations.
• Manage retention files for all Customs entries.
• Collaborate with Customs Brokers on exceptions and resolutions.
• Interface with internal/external stakeholders and government agencies.
• Audit and approve freight invoices for timely payment.
