Full Time Early Childhood Education Lead Preschool Teacher - Sopris Elementary School

The ideal candidates will have a cheerful disposition and love working with preschool-aged children. We are looking for someone who is patient, energetic, works well with a team and has a great sense of humor! Candidates are required to be qualified as an early childhood teacher through the Department of Human Services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Early Childhood Director. May receive guidance from the Early Childhood Special Educator.

Will provide coaching or training to paraprofessionals as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Provide careful and effective supervision of individual and groups of children, on and off campus, in accordance with District established policies and procedures.
2. Maintain and oversee a positive, developmentally appropriate, organized, and creative learning environment.
3. Work with individual students and small groups of students.
4. Encourage proper behavior and maintain children’s safety and learning, through the implementation of the approved behavior guidance plan.
5. Maintain records, including attendance.
6. Maintain classroom environment in a sanitary, neat and orderly manner.
7. Assist with snacks and other meals as appropriate including the maintenance of a cleanly environment for snacks and meals.
8. Attend to the physical needs of the children (i.e., feeding, toileting, resting, etc.).
9. Perform routine clerical tasks as needed or assigned.
10. Communicate positively and appropriately with parents regarding their child in relationship to the early childhood program.
11. Assist with parent teacher conferences.
12. Maintain a cooperative relationship with school staff.
13. Assure the health and safety of children by following health and safety practices and regulations.
14. Provide first aid and health-related services as needed.
15. Collect and input data for the Creative Curriculum GOLD program for all students on IEPs or in CPP, as well as for tuition paying four year olds.
16. Attend required continuing education classes and adhere to guidelines set by the District and the Colorado Department of Human Services.
17. Other related primary duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

1. Preschool instructional/tutorial procedures and practices
2. Developmental stages and behaviors of preschool age students
3. Developmental and behavioral characteristics of students with special needs
4. Basic methods used in overseeing and directing students’ activities in a variety of age-appropriate settings
5. Positive guidance and classroom management techniques
6. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
7. CPR / First Aid / Universal Precautions/ Medication Administration training
8. Modern office procedures and methods

Ability to:

1. Supervise a variety of student groups in a variety of settings
2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
3. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
4. Operate and use modern office equipment
5. Communicate with Spanish speaking families
6. Provide specialized enrichment opportunities for students
7. Work independently and with a minimum of direction
8. Maintain a professional appearance while at work
9. Interact with children in a way that is both nurturing and respectful

SALARY RANGE AND DAYS WORKED

Hourly range: $22.35 - $27.69/hour, depending on qualified experience

Days worked: 185 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks)
