Job summary

Bright Silicon Technologies seeks an Optical Communications Engineer to lead architecture, programming, and implementation of modems and DSP pipelines. You will bridge the LDA front-end optics with rugged back-end electronics, driving data transport for Free-Space Optical flight terminals and mesh networks.

You will work on high-speed modem programming, DSP, LDPC/FEC implementations, and transceiver integration, with SDA standards and defense interoperability emphasis. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on modem programming, high-speed DSP, and FPGA/ASIC implementation experience.
• Deep understanding of optical error correction codes (LDPC, Reed-Solomon, soft-decision FEC).

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and optimize firmware/software for fiber-coupled modems with low latency data throughput.
• Design and deploy forward error correction algorithms for atmospheric turbulence.
• Drive integration of optical transceivers and link front/back-end hardware.
• Ensure compliance with SDA standards and defense interoperability requirements.
• Collaborate across teams to test and validate end-to-end optical links from lab to flight demonstrations.
