Job summary

State of Florida is seeking Assistant State Attorney for the 1st Circuit in Milton, FL. The role involves prosecuting crimes across Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties, with heavy court appearances and a focus on courtroom litigation.

Ideal candidates are Florida Bar members in good standing with demonstrated interest in litigation or criminal law through coursework or internships. Lateral hires with prosecutorial experience are welcome.

Qualifications

• Must be a Florida Bar member in good standing.
• Interest in litigation and/or criminal law through coursework and internships.
• Experience in prosecutorial work is preferred for lateral hires.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute crimes in the First Judicial Circuit, Milton office.
• Manage a large caseload and appear in court frequently.
• Prepare criminal cases for prosecution, conduct legal research, depose witnesses and interview victims.
• Represent the state in jury and non-jury trials; exam and cross-examine witnesses.
