Scale is seeking ambitious ML interns to work on deeply technical applications and cutting-edge research problems under world-class mentorship. You will contribute to real, shipped work across frontier models, safety, evaluation, and reliable deployment for enterprise and government use.

Eligible candidates are pursuing BS/MS/PhD in ML/NLP with a 2027 or 2028 graduation date, available for Summer 2027 in SF or NY, and have research publications or strong track records in LLMs, NLP, or related

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BS, MS or PhD program with a focus on ML, DL, or NLP, graduating Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
• Available for a Summer 2027 internship (May/June) in San Francisco or New York.
• Research experience or publications in LLMs, NLP, multimodal models, agents, safety, evaluation, or alignment.

Responsibilities

• Measure dangerous capabilities of frontier models and conduct preparedness research.
• Research benchmarks for frontier models and their creation.
• Develop methods for training models to excel on difficult reasoning tasks.
• Study reinforcement learning and post-training methods for reliability in high-stakes tasks.
• Investigate scalable oversight protocols for quality control of reasoning chains.
• Study model generalization and data-driven advancements.
• Research synthetic and hybrid data with humans in the loop to scale data generation.
• Improve production models via retraining and hyperparameter searches without regressions.
• Create post-training or agentic solutions for enterprise and public sector applications.
