Salary Range:

$20.82 - $32.03/hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

Job Description

The Front Office Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties and front office operations to support patient care activities. Responsibilities include ensuring smooth patient flow and maintaining communication within the department, referring physician offices, and organization staff.

  • Interacts courteously with patients, their families, and the public according to established standards.
  • Greets visitors and answers telephones.
  • May collect copays, close the cash drawer, and prepare month-end deposits.
  • Collects initial demographic and clinical patient information and accurately enters it into the medical record.
  • Prepares and compiles patient charts.
  • Assists with patient scheduling, including confirmations, cancellations, and rescheduling.
  • Communicates schedule changes promptly to all relevant parties, including clinical staff and supervisors.
  • Maintains accurate information using various software, including department-specific programs, to schedule, enter charges, scan documents, and update patient data.
  • Ensures all required paperwork is complete in the patient chart prior to procedures.
  • Orders patient tests as directed by medical staff during patient stays.
  • May work in various departments as needed and assist clinical staff with patients and families.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
  • Clerical experience including filing, calculator use, and telephone skills required.
  • Typing speed of at least 35 WPM required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of medical front office or equivalent administrative experience required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy required.
  • Two years of medical front office experience preferred.
  • Experience in an acute healthcare system environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare database systems and insurance procedures preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
