Chick-fil-A Valparaiso is seeking a Front of House Director to lead and develop the FOH team, uphold hospitality standards, and ensure safe, great food served by kind people.

You will coach an Assistant Director, Shift Leads, Trainers, and Team Members; drive system optimization, labor management, and customer care; participate in weekly leadership meetings and ensure flawless execution during all shifts.

Front of House Director
Role Summary:

The FOH Director is responsible for ensuring that we have safe and great food served by kind people. They cast and implement our shared vision of being the best place to eat and work in Valparaiso. They coach and develop the Front of House team to meet operational and hospitality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Leadership Development:
  • Team Member development
    • Build and lead a team consisting of:
      • An Assistant Director, Shift Leads, Trainers, and Team Members
    • Always looking for ways to help shift leads empower team members to grow
    • Identify talent who can fill our leadership bench
  • Trainer Development
    • Partner with Training Director on training plan for Front of House Trainers
    • Assist in identifying talent for trainer role
    • Provide feedback to the Training Director on performance of new hires
    • Attend Trainer meetings led by the Training Director
  • Shift Lead Development
    • Directly supervise shift leads
    • Meet 1 on 1 with shift leads 1x per month to discuss operational performance
    • Coach and mentor shift leads daily on each shift
    • Lead the FOH Ops meetings
    • Assists Training Director in training new shift leads
  • Assistant Front of House Director Development
    • Directly supervise the Assistant Front of House Director
    • You will meet weekly with the Assistant FOH Director
    • Work with head of leader development to assign annual development goals
  • Personal Development
    • Meet with Executive Director/ Operator Weekly
    • Attend Director meeting (weekly)
    • Review schedule prior to posting
  • Assist with FOH interviews and have HR, performance, and eval conversations with all FOH team members.
2) System Optimization and Operations
  • Order Accuracy goals are set and being met
  • Speed of Service goals are set and being met
    • Help trouble shoot with the shift leads when bottle necks occur
    • Helps the team find the balance of hustle and carelessness
  • Ensure that each shift sets up the next for success
    • 100% checklist completion and holding consistent standards for each shift
  • Always has a can do attitude
  • Analyzes smart shops and CEMs, takes action accordingly
  • Takes ownership of food safety in the FOH
    • Is responsible for the cleanliness of FOH
  • Coordinate with the Back of House Director on operational changes
    • Analyzes improvements that need to happen in the Drive-Thru
    • Proactive with changes and updates to systems.
  • Ensures all iPOS & tech equipment is in good working order
3) Hospitality and Care
  • Grows occasions to care (stresses hospitality AND operations)
  • Lead and support the two main areas of Winning Hearts Everyday: Operational
  • Excellence and 2nd Mile Service
  • Understands the idea of an experience rather than a transaction
4) Financial return:
  • Labor Management
    • Hitting our labor goal of Top 50%
    • Ensures we are following schedule checklist
    • Shift leads, trainers and Assistant FOH Director scheduled strategically
  • Cash Management
    • Oversee and improve cash management (refunds, offages, promo frees, etc.)
Professionalism Standards
  • Available to work 45 hours a week, weekends, and 2 holidays
  • Open availability
  • Performs 3 opens and 3 closes per month at minimum
  • Works 2-3 nights per week minimum
  • Works the hours that are scheduled
  • Able to work outside in accordance with our Weather Policy
  • Has a positive working relationship with all leaders
  • Be a servant leader who leads by example. (Always on time, reliable, proficient at all operational positions)
  • Growth mindset- always looking for ways to improve, takes initiative in implementing new systems
  • If sick:
    • As a business professional you are responsible for making the determination if you can work.
    • Coordinate with another director.
    • If you need advice call your direct supervisor
    • Find coverage
    • If the team is 3 plus people short, it is required that you are in to help cover or help find people to come in.
    • Need to be able to answer calls at all times on off hours. (Our goal is that a well trained staff eliminates most phone calls at night. We want you to have a good work life balance.)
  • Respond to emails in a timely manner (check your email daily.)
  • Be professional
    • Do not gossip
    • Talk up to your supervisor (David) about issues and not down Shift leads, team members, etc.
    • All communications with other team members must be professional when about work or when talking about others who work at CFA Valpo.
  • Leadership Philosophy of being the guide not the hero.
