Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Design System Engineer to maintain and extend a scalable design system. You will create and update UI components, patterns, and documentation while ensuring consistency across teams.

You will work with designers, researchers, and engineers to align the system with user needs and accessibility standards, driving best practices and performance improvements. This is a contract role based in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of front-end development principles and component-driven architecture.
• Proficiency with modern front-end frameworks and tools (Tailwind, JavaScript, Vue, Storybook).
• Familiarity with design tools like Figma.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Design System Engineer Role: Maintain and continue to grow our reusable library of UI components, design guidelines, and patterns to create consistent and scalable user experiences. Collaborate with design and development teams to ensure adherence to design standards, and champion best practices for design and engineering

Responsibilities

Maintaining and continuing to build upon our robust, scalable design system: Creating and updating UI components, design patterns, and documentation. Ensuring consistency and adoption: Act as an advocate for design system best practices, contributing to documentation and training materials to help teams understand and utilize the system effectively. Collaborating with cross-functional teams: Work closely with product designers, UX researchers, and engineers to ensure the design system meets the needs of both users and the organization. Improving accessibility and performance: Ensure that design system components are accessible and performant and actively seek ways to optimize them. Providing technical guidance: Be able to provide guidance to other engineers on design system best practices. Staying up to date with industry trends: Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and design methodologies.

Required Skills

Strong understanding of front-end development principles and component-driven architecture. Proficiency in modern front-end frameworks and tools (e.g., Tailwind, JavaScript, CSS, Vue, Storybook). Familiarity with design tools like Figma. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to debug, optimize, and troubleshoot design system components. Knowledge of accessibility principles (ARIA, WCAG). Experience with build tools and CI/CD pipelines.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
