Job summary

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
• Ability to perform cashier and service center tasks.
• Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
• Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible.
• Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt and group items for bagging.
• Check the bottom of carts and under seats for items before completing an order.
• Follow bagging procedures for proper bag usage.
• Scan orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice.
• Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
• Handle cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps and WIC vouchers per procedure.
• Follow refunds and error correction procedures.
• Maintain accurate cash control and perform overrides when needed.
• Assist customers by taking orders to their car including Food Lion To-Go when applicable.
• Maintain alertness and call for assistance to service customers per standards.
• Check prices quickly and accurately.
• Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
• Wear the Food Lion uniform with name badge; keep appearance neat and clean.
• Retrieve shopping carts and maintain cart corrals as per standard.
• Keep front-end area neat and presentable.
• Report any register malfunction to management.
• Ensure MVP savings center KIOSK is stocked and working.
• Observe and correct unsafe conditions for associates and customers.
• Notify QA of cleaning issues or maintenance needs on front end.
• Complete CBT and training aids successfully.
• Perform cashier duties as scheduled or per surge plan.
• Assist front-end management in brief absence of CSM/ACSM when needed.
• Serve as Food Lion To-Go Runner when scheduled or needed.
• Ensure check stands have proper bags and receipt paper and restock paper.
• Seek more efficient ways to perform the job and reduce costs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
