Job summary

Food Lion in Norfolk is seeking a store associate to provide fast, friendly service at the Front End, greet customers, scan orders, handle payments and maintain a neat front-end area. You will follow cash-handling procedures and assist customers to their cars as needed.

New team members should be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and meet age requirements. Prior customer service experience is helpful for success in this role.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
• Ability to perform the technical requirements of cashier and service center.
• Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
• Greet each customer and use their name whenever possible.
• Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt and group items for bagging.
• Check the bottom of carts and under baby seats for items before completing an order.
• Follow bagging procedures and handle cash, checks, coupons, gift cards and WIC vouchers.
• Scan orders and process payments per standard practice.
• Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take orders to their car.
• Maintain a neat front-end area and report any issues with cash registers or equipment.
