Job summary

The Kroger Family of Companies is seeking a Customer Service Associate at our Houston store to assist customers, operate the checkstand, process refunds and exchanges, and support store operations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or combination of relevant education and experience
• Six months cashier experience to work at Customer Service Desk
• Minimum 18 years of age/19 years of age in Idaho/ 19 years in Alaska if selling tobacco
• Ability to pass drug test
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work weekends on a regular basis, work any shift and work overtime as needed
• Ability to organize/prioritize tasks/projects
• Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and organizational structure
• Related retail experience

Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service and encourage others to do the same
• Operate cashier functions, open/close register, process sales, and bag merchandise
• Handle price discrepancies and maintain checkstand cleanliness
• Answer phones and comply with corporate policies
• Promote and follow Company initiatives and deactivate EAS tags as needed
• Respond to EAS pedestal activations when necessary
• Maintain all store accounting functions
• Prepare bank deposits of excess funds
• Open and close the Customer Service Desk; process refunds and exchanges, money orders, transfers, bill pay, gift cards, and other desk services
• Provide lottery service (except Alaska) and fish and game licenses
• Send/receive faxes; administer lost and found
• Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
• Manage conflict in a professional manner; uphold honesty and integrity
• Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues
• Assist minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults as needed
• Perform essential functions with or without accommodation
