Job summary

The Guthrie Clinic Internal Medicine team in Ithaca, NY, is seeking a dedicated Patient Service Specialist to manage front-desk operations and patient registration. You’ll greet patients, schedule appointments, verify insurance, collect copays, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced setting.

You will collaborate with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow, uphold HIPAA standards, and contribute to a welcoming, patient-centered environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
• Medical office experience preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Comfortable with computers and learning new applications.
• Able to manage scheduling and registration responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients courteously and professionally.
• Answer and triage phone calls; take messages.
• Schedule and maintain patient appointments electronically.
• Register patients and verify demographics and insurance.
• Verify insurance eligibility and assist with forms.
• Handle copays and payments per policy.
• Balance daily cash and follow policies.
• Coordinate communication between patients and staff.
• Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA.
