Job summary

UPMC Corporate Services is seeking a full-time Emergency Department Patient Services Representative to support patient registration at the front desk and bedside located at UPMC Cole. The role involves welcoming patients, educating them on copayments, and collecting payments while ensuring HIPAA compliance and a patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities include ED tracking board reconciliation, insurance verification, and coordination of benefits to enable smooth billing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Healthcare experience or patient access experience preferred.
• Medical terminology and managed care knowledge preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Register patients accurately at the front desk and bedside.
• Reconcile First Net ED Tracking Board and hospital ADT system during shifts.
• Verify insurance eligibility and coordinate benefits to support billing.
• Collect co-pays, coinsurance, and deductibles on the day of service.
• Educate patients on copayments and financial obligations; explain options.
• Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA and obtain necessary signatures.
