Job summary

UPMC Northwest seeks a casual Emergency Department Patient Services Representative to welcome patients, assist with registrations, and explain financial obligations. This role requires strong customer service in a healthcare setting and adherence to HIPAA privacy standards.

The position offers flexible scheduling with at least 16 hours monthly and one weekend shift every 4 weeks, supporting patient flow and a positive UPMC experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years in healthcare or 1 year in medical billing/fiscal setting preferred.
• Experience with patient registration and insurance processes is favorable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Register patients into the ADT and hospital systems, including during downtime.
• Reconcile and maintain the ED tracking board and hospital ADT data.
• Explain insurance coverage, collect co-pays, and coordinate benefits.
• Counsel patients on financial liability and direct to financial advocacy resources.
• Ensure proper patient identification and HIPAA-compliant handling of records.
