Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Checker in our Grocery department. As a frontline associate you will operate the register, greet customers, and help them find items while delivering a great shopping experience.

You’ll handle payment types, follow store policies, stock shelves, assist with promotions, and keep the checkout area organized. No formal education required; on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• No education or experience requirements; training provided.
• Excellent customer service and ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Willingness to learn and support store team.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide prompt service.
• Operate the cash register and process payments.
• Count back change and issue receipts.
• Comply with local, state, and federal guidelines (WIC, tobacco, etc.).
• Assist with bagging, courtesy personnel, and drive-up service.
• Maintain knowledge of item lookup numbers and weekly ads.
• Stock and rotate merchandise; keep shelves clean.
• Ensure register area is clean and report cash discrepancies.
• Verify balances at shift start/end.
