Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Freight Railroad Bridge Intern to support design and inspection activities for freight railroad projects. You will work under a senior engineer, assisting in checking drawings, calculations, and material lists while gaining real-world project experience.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, problem-solving, and clear communication. Travel and field work within the U.S. may be required as projects progress.

In the role of a Freight Railroad Bridge Intern, we'll count on you to:

• Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures related to the design of bridge, and supporting facilities for our various freight railroad clients
• Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a senior‑level Engineer to assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, and use of specialized software
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
• Position may require travel and/or field work within the U.S.
• Perform other duties as needed
• This position is contingent upon the successful completion of background check and drug screening. Following hire, the role is subject to random and reasonable‑cause drug and alcohol testing
• Have a valid license to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry, such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
• Preference given to local candidates
