Three Tone Enterprise is seeking a Freight Broker to help power our growing freight operation. We move freight for customers nationwide, and every load has to arrive on time, in full, and on budget. In this role, you’ll manage loads from order to proof of delivery: you’ll plan and schedule shipments, source and book reliable carriers at the right rates, keep drivers and internal teams informed, and track the results that show how well we’re performing. Your work directly affects on-time delivery, freight costs, margins, and customer satisfaction.
This role is ideal for an experienced freight broker, carrier sales representative, or logistics professional who knows how to keep a high-volume desk running smoothly. You’re comfortable on the phone with carriers, you can find trucks in markets you’ve never shipped to, and you stay calm when a driver is running late or a load goes sideways. You’re organized and persistent, you keep your records current, and you take ownership of results.
You’ll thrive here if you like ownership and a fast pace, and want to help a growing company build and scale its freight brokerage operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day brokerage activity, including load planning, carrier sourcing, booking, dispatch, tracking, and settlement.
- Plan and schedule shipments based on purchase orders, delivery appointments, and facility requirements.
- Secure delivery appointments and manage changes or reschedules with shippers and receiving facilities.
- Broker and cover loads by finding, booking, and dispatching box-truck, LTL, and truckload carriers nationwide.
- Build and maintain a reliable carrier network, including local drivers and owner-operators, to secure consistent capacity.
- Recruit, vet, and onboard carriers, verifying operating authority, insurance, safety ratings, and FMCSA compliance.
- Negotiate rates, accessorials, and terms with carriers to control freight costs and protect margins.
- Use load boards and freight tracking tools, including Trucker Tools, to post loads, find capacity, and provide real-time visibility.
- Give drivers complete load details, including pickup times, delivery appointments, site instructions, and paperwork requirements.
- Track every load from pickup through delivery and keep customers and internal teams updated on status.
- Resolve late pickups, missed appointments, refusals, shortages, damage, detention, and claims quickly, escalating when needed.
- Prepare and manage rate confirmations, carrier agreements, bills of lading, and proof of delivery for every load.
- Confirm delivered quantities match the order and paperwork is complete, so customer invoicing and carrier payments stay accurate.
- Monitor performance, including on-time delivery, cost per load, and margin per load, and take action to improve results.
- Track carrier performance and move freight away from carriers who don’t meet expectations.
- Plan ahead for seasonal peaks so carrier capacity is ready when volume rises.
- Maintain accurate load, carrier, and customer records in our TMS, CRM, or tracking sheets.
Qualifications:
- Strong brokerage skills, with a focus on service, accuracy, and margin.
- Strong negotiator who secures fair rates and holds carriers to their commitments.
- Excellent phone and written communication, comfortable working with carriers, drivers, shippers, receiving facilities, and internal teams.
- Calm under pressure and quick to solve problems when loads go sideways.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage many active loads at once.
- Comfortable working with data to track costs, margins, and performance.
- Self-starter who follows through without needing to be chased.
- Proficiency with load boards, TMS or CRM platforms, and spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets).
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, carrier sales, dispatch, or logistics coordination.
- Hands-on experience brokering and managing loads from order and booking through delivery and settlement.
- Experience negotiating rates with carriers and owner-operators.
- Working knowledge of carrier compliance, including operating authority, insurance, safety ratings, and FMCSA requirements.
- Disciplined about keeping load, carrier, and customer records current.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. A degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Katy, TX.
Preferred:
- Experience shipping to large retail or e-commerce distribution centers, including appointment scheduling and compliance requirements.
- An existing network of reliable carriers, local drivers, and owner-operators nationwide.
- Experience shipping beverages or other heavy consumer goods.
- Experience with DAT, Truckstop, Highway, Trucker Tools, or similar load board, tracking, and carrier-vetting tools.
