Job summary

Coinflow, headquartered in Chicago, seeks a Fraud Data Scientist to act as the analytical brain behind fraud models. You’ll dive into model performance, signals, and strategy for fraud across card, bank, and alternative rails for merchants in gaming, marketplaces, remittance, and ecommerce.

You’ll partner with engineers, risk operations, and compliance, turning data into actionable decisions and leveraging AI-native tooling to drive experiments and feature exploration.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as a data scientist or analyst focused on fraud, risk, or abuse.
• Proven ability to improve production fraud models or rules.
• Strong SQL and Python; knowledge of ML concepts used in fraud.
• Experience designing and analyzing experiments with unequal costs for false positives/negatives.
• Ability to explain model behavior to merchants, risk ops, banks, and auditors.
• Familiarity with graph or network analysis is a plus.
• Comfort with AI-native tooling and a bias toward action.

Responsibilities

• Model Performance Analysis: track model and rule performance over time and by merchant; explain changes.
• Fraud Trend Analysis: identify emerging patterns and size their impact.
• Feature Recommendations: explore signals, prototype features, and present evidence for new model inputs.
• Label Quality & Feedback Loops: manage ground truth and flag labeling issues.
• Experimentation & Evaluation: design backtests, shadow tests, and compare vendors.
• Rules & Strategy: tune thresholds and thresholds with risk ops for different merchant segments.
• Reporting & Explainability: turn results into leadership-ready insights for decisions.
