Now Hiring: Banquet Chef

Location: InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza

Join the premier culinary team at the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza as our Banquet Chef. We are seeking a passionate and experienced culinary professional to lead our banquet kitchen operations and deliver exceptional guest experiences in one of Kansas City’s most iconic hotels.

As Banquet Chef, you will manage all aspects of banquet food production—from planning and preparation to presentation—while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This leadership role is critical in supporting high-profile events, exceeding guest expectations, and maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing staff and day-to-day banquet kitchen operations, including planning and managing the production and presentation of quality food in a cost-effective, safe manner.
  2. Creating and recommending menu changes to achieve guest satisfaction.
  3. Managing responsibilities in alignment with senior management, company policies, brand standards, and regulations.
  4. Ensuring quality service, meeting/exceeding financial and service goals, and managing within approved plans and objectives.
  5. Contributing to and recommending budgets, capital expenditures, inventory controls, sales and business plans, and short/long-term planning.
  6. Reporting, investigating, and resolving violations to internal controls, policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.

This position directly manages assigned staff and indirectly manages all subordinates. The Banquet Chef articulates company goals to the staff and demonstrates commitment through work ethic, integrity, and respect. The role requires close collaboration with hotel management to ensure guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High school education plus schooling in culinary arts, hotel and restaurant management, or related major.
  • Three or more years of related experience. Familiarity with hospitality industry practices is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of culinary arts, food & beverage service, hospitality, business, and basic accounting principles.
  • Organizational skills for accurate, timely, and thorough work.
  • Ability to manage daily operations and resolve operational problems effectively.
  • Skills in interviewing, hiring, scheduling, motivating, training, and monitoring staff performance.
  • Ability to analyze data, anticipate issues, and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with computers, calculators, phones, and office equipment.
