AllPeople Marketplace is seeking a Fractional HR Lead to build foundational HR systems and serve as the primary HR resource. You will support recruiting, onboarding, compliance, performance management, compensation, and team development in a part-time, remote capacity.

The ideal candidate will drive scalable HR processes from the ground up, partnering with leadership to align policies with our mission and multi-state compliance needs. APM is equity-focused and growth-minded.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in HR, with lead or fractional experience in ecommerce/startup/mission-driven company.
• Strong knowledge of US labor law and multi-state remote workforce regulations.
• Experience with modern HR platforms (Gusto, Rippling, BambooHR).
• Certification preferred: SHRM-CP/SHR or PHR/SPHR.

Responsibilities

• Build foundational HR policies and maintain employee handbook; ensure multi-state compliance.
• Partner with leadership on job descriptions, recruiting, and remote onboarding for W-2 and 1099 staff.
• Facilitate performance reviews, feedback loops, and team engagement aligned with company values.
• Advise executives on organizational structure, compensation, and sensitive employee relations issues.

As an early-stage company preparing for growth, we're looking for an experienced Fractional HR Lead to build the people, policies, processes, and infrastructure needed to support a growing organization.

About the Role

The Fractional HR Lead will serve as APM's primary HR resource and strategic people advisor. This is both a strategic and hands-on role responsible for establishing foundational HR systems while supporting leadership with recruiting, organizational planning, compliance, performance management, compensation, and team development.

The right person is comfortable building HR infrastructure from the ground up rather than stepping into an established department. You'll help determine what APM needs now, what can wait, and what systems should be put in place to support future growth.

Key Responsibilities

• HR Operations & Compliance: Build foundational policies, maintain the employee handbook, ensure multi-state labor compliance, and manage HRIS/payroll integrations.
• Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Partner with leadership on job descriptions, recruitment, and standardizing remote onboarding for W-2 staff and 1099 contractors.
• Culture & Performance: Facilitate performance reviews, feedback loops, and team engagement aligned with our mission-driven values.
• Leadership Advisory: Advise executives on organizational structure, compensation, and sensitive employee relations issues.
• Establish scalable HR processes and documentation that can grow with the company.

Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in HR, with proven experience in a lead or fractional capacity within an e-commerce, startup, or mission-driven company.
• Compliance Expertise: Strong knowledge of US labor law, multi-state remote workforce regulations, and contractor classifications.
• Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with modern HR platforms (e.g., Gusto, Rippling, BambooHR, Slack).
• Values Alignment: Passion for sustainability, social impact, and conscious commerce.
• Certifications: SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR preferred.

Compensation & Application

• Compensation: Compensation for this role will initially be provided through company stock grants, with a transition to a standardized salary structure anticipated in the near future.
