Job description

Our Story

At a young age, the founders of Nimbl learned the surprisingly critical role that accounting plays in creating successful organizations, families, and communities. Dave Olsen and Shane Rowley both grew up in small-business families, each with a unique story. Working alongside their fathers taught them early lessons in entrepreneurship and finance. For Dave, Shane, and the entire Nimbl team, accurate accounting and financial insight enable entrepreneurs to build thriving businesses that create opportunity and prosperity for everyone. Nimbl is dedicated to providing a variety of accounting and finance services to small and midsize businesses across the country. Our mission is to empower business owners with accurate, actionable financial information delivered in a way that positively impacts every facet of their lives.

Here's where you come in: Nimbl has been growing at an exponential rate, and we need someone as passionate about financial analysis and modeling as we are about helping small businesses succeed. We’re looking for an FP&A Analyst to join our Strategic Finance team and help take our services to the next level.

The Position

As a Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst at Nimbl, you will focus on creating and interpreting financial models, forecasts, and reports that drive key insights for our clients. You’ll work closely with our Client Managers and accounting team to translate raw financial data into meaningful guidance for business owners. This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home (or anywhere with a reliable internet connection). Importantly, you will not be responsible for managing client relationships – each client has a dedicated Client Manager who owns that relationship. Instead, your focus will be on high-impact financial analysis and modeling to support our clients’ decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning models in Google Sheets (must be fluent in complex formulas like INDEX, MATCH, SUMIFS, ARRAYFORMULA, QUERY, etc.)

  • Analyze historical financial statements to identify trends, anomalies, and key business drivers—and clearly explain what’s driving the results.

  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis with minimal instruction and translate ambiguous questions into structured analysis.

  • Work with large datasets, cleaning and preparing data for modeling purposes.

  • Build clear visualizations (charts/tables) that communicate financial insights.

  • Maintain model integrity—you will own and troubleshoot your own models end to end.

  • Deliver monthly and quarterly financial reports for internal and client review.

  • Prioritize and manage tasks independently in a remote environment, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work.

  • Document assumptions and processes clearly to support transparency and replication.

  • Communicate effectively with clients to clarify assumptions, gather inputs, and explain outputs—all in support of the Controller and Client Manager. You’ll help translate business needs into structured models without owning the client relationship.

What Makes Nimbl FP&A Different

Although FP&A roles at many companies are known for long hours and rigid corporate routines, Nimbl is at the forefront of changing that narrative. We reject the outdated notion that work should always come before life. At Nimbl, we fully embrace the autonomy and personal ownership that come with a remote, people-first culture. You’ll have the freedom to shape a schedule that works best for you while still meeting client deadlines – no more 80-hour grind. (While there may be occasional busy periods during critical planning cycles, they will be a far cry from the grueling norms found elsewhere in the industry.) We understand that modern professionals prioritize career growth and flexibility, and we strive to deliver on those expectations. Nimbl’s strong remote culture keeps our team connected and supported no matter where you work, so you can maintain a healthy work-life balance and do impactful work every day.

Employee Status:

The approximate number of hours per week will be agreed upon during the hiring process, but the position will start off part-time with the potential to move to full-time as the department grows. The position requires some daily availability unless time off is arranged beforehand, but the amount of time each day is flexible.

Our Requirements (In Rough Order of Priority)

  • An innate desire to serve people, especially business owners. You genuinely care about helping clients and teammates succeed.

  • An obsession with meeting deadlines and keeping commitments. You take ownership of your deliverables and honor your agreements.

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills. You’re highly proficient with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) and can build robust financial models and forecasts.

  • Excellent communication skills. Able to distill complex financial data into clear insights and explain concepts to non-financial stakeholders in both writing and speech.

  • A problem-solver who works independently with minimal oversight. You’re a self-starter who can thrive in a remote work environment, troubleshoot issues, and find solutions.

  • 2–4 years of experience in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance, or a related field (e.g. consulting, investment banking, or public accounting). Exceptional entry-level candidates who excel in our assessment will also be considered, as we value talent and potential.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. (MBA or relevant certification is a plus but not required.)

  • Tech-savvy and detail-oriented. Comfortable using financial software and tools (e.g. advanced Excel/Google Sheets functions, QuickBooks or other accounting systems, BI/reporting tools). You pay attention to details and ensure accuracy in all analyses.

  • Bonus: Experience working with small businesses or in a client-services environment is a plus, as is exposure to high-growth or startup company finance.

Growth Potential

This role is a launchpad for your career growth at Nimbl. We’re a fast-growing company and strongly prefer to promote from within as we scale. That means a high performer in the FP&A Analyst role will have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility and advance into senior positions over time. As you demonstrate your skills and drive, you could grow into roles such as Senior FP&A Analyst or other leadership positions in our finance team. You’ll receive mentorship from experienced leaders and exposure to a variety of businesses, accelerating your development. We’re not just offering a job – we’re offering a long-term career path. Show us your passion, creativity, and reliability, and we’ll invest in your success. Your growth is our growth.

Compensation

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications). At Nimbl, we believe in transparency and fairness in pay, so we include salary ranges in our job postings. This range represents what we’re prepared to offer based on your experience, skill set, and fit with our culture. We are open to offering the higher end of the range for an exceptional candidate who brings the right mix of expertise and alignment with our values. (That said, if the only outcome you’d be satisfied with is the very top of the range regardless of fit, this may not be the right match – we approach compensation as a two-way conversation and aim for a win-win agreement.)
