Job description

We are seeking an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer for a contract engagement supporting a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical/life sciences company. In this role, you will work directly alongside product teams to identify operational friction in how teams plan, deliver, coordinate, and report, then design and implement practical automation, integrations, and AI-assisted workflows that remove that friction. Rather than operating from a centralized engineering backlog, you will work within the flow of product teams, rapidly translating real-world challenges into working solutions with measurable operational value. This is a hands-on workflow architecture and automation engineering role focused on implementation rather than enterprise AI strategy. You will build and connect systems, develop reusable workflow patterns, strengthen the product tooling ecosystem, and help teams adopt scalable solutions across the organization. The role will balance four core areas: workflow automation, AI-assisted and agentic workflows, Aha!/Atlassian integrations, and enterprise product tooling administration. You will also leverage tools including Miro for discovery workshops and journey mapping, Microsoft Teams for collaboration, Confluence for documentation and knowledge management, and Microsoft Copilot to support AI-enabled productivity. This engagement may be performed remotely or in a hybrid capacity from New York City or Tampa.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work directly with product teams to observe day-to-day operations and identify workflow friction, manual effort, rework, and opportunities for automation.
  • Facilitate discovery workshops and journey-mapping sessions using Miro to understand current-state processes and uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate observed operational challenges into concrete, buildable technical solutions with clear business and productivity value.
  • Deliver solutions iteratively alongside product teams rather than through lengthy centralized programs.
  • Design, build, test, and maintain workflow automations for recurring planning, reporting, coordination, and operational activities.
  • Design and implement AI-assisted and agentic workflows that support product, delivery, and operational teams.
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot and related AI capabilities to improve productivity while applying appropriate governance and responsible AI practices.
  • Build and maintain integrations across Aha!, the Atlassian suite, and other enterprise product delivery, reporting, and collaboration platforms.
  • Develop API-based data exchanges with appropriate error handling, monitoring, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support the technical configuration, administration, standards, and overall health of the product tooling ecosystem.
  • Create reusable workflow patterns, automation components, templates, and technical approaches that can be adopted across multiple product teams.
  • Build and maintain data and reporting pipelines that improve the reliability and trustworthiness of product, delivery, and adoption information.
  • Use Confluence to document workflows, technical configurations, standards, reusable patterns, implementation guidance, and operational knowledge.
  • Collaborate through Microsoft Teams with product leaders, business stakeholders, technical teams, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Measure time and effort recovered through implemented solutions and use those insights to identify and prioritize the next highest-friction opportunities.
  • Apply appropriate security, access, compliance, and governance requirements when designing automation, integrations, and AI-enabled solutions within a regulated life sciences environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in engineering, workflow automation, systems integration, technical operations, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying practical technical solutions directly with product, business, or operational teams.
  • Hands-on experience designing API-based integrations, workflow automations, and reporting pipelines across enterprise platforms such as Aha!, Jira, and the broader Atlassian suite.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language, along with a strong understanding of REST APIs, structured data formats, integration patterns, and error handling.
  • Experience configuring, administering, or supporting SaaS, product management, and DevOps platforms at enterprise scale.
  • Working knowledge of AI-assisted and agentic workflow design, including practical limitations, governance considerations, and responsible use in regulated environments.
  • Experience with enterprise collaboration and documentation tools such as Miro, Microsoft Teams, Confluence, and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Understanding of data modeling, data quality, reporting pipeline architecture, security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills, with the ability to translate operational challenges into scalable, practical solutions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred experience includes pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated industry; production AI-assisted workflows; hands-on Aha! or Atlassian administration and integration; reusable automation patterns adopted across multiple teams; or enterprise-scale product operating model transformations.
