Role: Founding Sales Development Representatives
Location: New York, NY
Working pattern: Five days per week in the office
About Open Insurance
We are a venture-backed technology company disrupting a multi-trillion-dollar industry that has remained largely unchanged for decades. Our platform uses modern infrastructure and AI to bring greater transparency, efficiency, and better decision-making to a highly fragmented market, starting with commercial real estate.
We closed the largest pre-seed in insurtech history, backed by Tier 1 VCs and the largest strategics in the space. We have strong early market traction, a differentiated product, and a founding team with a proven track record of building and scaling category-defining companies. We are building toward a $100B+ outcome and investing in the people, systems, and technology that will get us there.
We are currently operating in extreme stealth ahead of launch. We can share much more upon connecting.
Why This Role
We are hiring the first Sales Development Representatives to build the foundation of Open Insurance’s outbound sales function.
Working directly with the leadership team, you’ll be responsible for generating qualified pipeline, refining our outbound strategy, and helping establish the systems and processes that will support future growth. Our north star is simple: a near-infinite supply of quality meetings through quality outbound, and you’ll be the engine of it. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how we prospect, test messaging, and build a repeatable outbound engine from the ground up.
If you enjoy building from zero to one, taking ownership, and making a measurable impact on a company’s growth, you’ll have significant visibility and responsibility from day one.
What You’ll Own
- The full top-of-funnel motion from research and targeting through outreach and qualification, with the singular objective of generating qualified meetings for senior members of the team.
- Messaging, sequences, and channels: test and iterate continuously, document what works, what does not, and why, so the motion compounds over time rather than restarting with each new hire.
- The systems and infrastructure that make outbound faster and smarter, including the tools, data sources, and workflows that will scale beyond you as the team grows.
- Market intelligence: develop a deep understanding of our market, our buyers, and the language they use to describe their problems, and bring that intelligence back into how we position ourselves.
- Clean, complete handoffs that set the next stage of the sales process up for success, including accurate qualification notes, context, and next-step commitments.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is genuinely excited about what modern infrastructure and AI unlock in an industry that has resisted change for decades, and who wants to help build a modern sales engine for something that has never been built before.
- 1-3+ years of experience in sales, business development, growth, partnerships, fintech, insurtech, proptech, commercial real estate, or a related industry.
- A track record of excellence, starting in the classroom: you excelled at a rigorous university and have carried that top-percentile standard into everything since, including your last sales org. You can point to the evidence.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication: you write clearly, you listen carefully, and you know how to earn the attention of a busy, skeptical buyer in the first ten seconds of a conversation.
- High agency and low ego: you move fast, you own your outcomes, you ask for help when you need it, and you do not wait to be told what to do.
- Genuine curiosity about the problem we are solving and the market we are entering: you want to understand the industry deeply, not just hit a number.
- Comfort with rejection and a short feedback loop: you learn from every conversation, update your approach, and come back sharper.
- A bias toward building: you want to create the playbook, not inherit it, and you understand that founding hires have a different mandate than those who join later.
How We Work & Who We Are
- In-office in New York City, 5+ days a week. Building in person is how we move. Working hard and working sustainably are not in tension here: teammates regularly take time to work from abroad, go off the grid, and do what they need to stay at 100%.
- Low process, high context, flat by design. We organize around the belief that category-defining companies are built by people with chips on their shoulders and a hunger to own outcomes of increasing scope.
- Autonomy by default. The best cultures are built on intrinsic motivation, not management. We hire people we do not have to manage and give them room to operate.
- Best idea wins. We want people who generate sharp ideas, defend them well, and update fast when evidence moves. We are obsessed with ground truth.
