Job summary

Mindspan Institute seeks an experienced Manager, Laboratory Operations to oversee the operational, regulatory, and logistical functions of our Cambridge lab. You will keep the labs safe, compliant, stocked, and running smoothly so scientists can move fast.

This founding role involves building systems for space sharing, supplies handling, equipment maintenance, onboarding, and training of new lab members. You report to the Director of Operations and collaborate with research teams, facilities,

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in biology, bioengineering, or neuroscience, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of experience in a biology or bioengineering research laboratory, including at least three years managing lab operations.
• Working knowledge of biosafety, chemical safety, and hazardous waste regulations and general lab safety practices, and experience writing related protocols.
• Working knowledge of animal regulatory, safety, welfare, and compliance requirements, and experience writing related protocols.
• Experience with purchasing, receiving, and inventory systems, and with managing vendors and service contracts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee lab space planning, organization, and shared usage.
• Manage purchasing of consumables and handling of quotes and purchase orders in the procurement system (Prendio).
• Receive shipments and manage shipping for lab materials including dry ice and hazardous materials.
• Oversee equipment installation, maintenance, repair, and inventory audits.
• Ensure hazardous, biohazardous, and sharps waste management and liaise with EHS consultants.
• Coordinate safety training for new lab members and onboarding processes.
• Maintain SOPs and develop systems to streamline operations.
• Occasionally respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
