Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a founding Full-Stack Software Engineer for its Legal team to imagine, build, and scale AI-powered products for the legal industry. You’ll work across the stack to design intuitive experiences, build robust backends, and establish the foundations for products used by legal professionals worldwide.

You’ll have ownership from the outset—prototyping concepts, delivering production-quality applications on OpenAI platforms, and exploring new technical approaches when needed.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience shipping full-stack applications end-to-end.
• Comfort with ambiguity and fast iteration.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship full-stack products that leverage AI models to solve complex problems.
• Own projects end-to-end, from prototypes to production deployment and iteration.
• Design and develop intuitive user experiences across frontend and backend systems.
• Build scalable, reliable systems on OpenAI platforms and APIs; contribute new foundations where needed.
• Partner with product, design, researchers, and customers to identify opportunities and translate insights into products.
• Rapidly prototype and experiment with new AI capabilities guided by real user feedback.
• Develop deep understanding of legal workflows and industry challenges to inform technical strategy.
• Help establish engineering culture, standards, and practices as an early team member.
• Learn from and collaborate with experienced engineers and foster a high-trust team environment.
