OpenAI is hiring a Founding Full-Stack Software Engineer (Legal) in San Francisco to help imagine, build, and scale AI-powered legal products. You’ll own frontend and backend systems, prototype new ideas, and deploy production-ready solutions that transform legal workflows.

As a founding member of the Legal engineering team, you’ll shape technical foundations, collaborate across product and research, and iterate rapidly on high-impact initiatives leveraging OpenAI’s platforms and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Built and shipped full-stack applications end-to-end, from prototypes to production.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship full-stack products that leverage OpenAI models to solve legal workflow problems.
• Own projects end-to-end from prototyping to production deployment.
• Design and develop intuitive user experiences across frontend and backend systems.
• Build scalable, reliable systems on top of OpenAI platforms and APIs.
• Collaborate with product, design, researchers, and customers to identify opportunities and translate insights into products.
• Prototype and experiment with new AI capabilities using real-world feedback to guide decisions.
• Understand legal workflows and industry challenges to inform technical strategy.
• Establish engineering culture, standards, and practices as an early team member.
