Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis seeks a founding Chief for a new Division of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine. The leader will oversee academic, clinical, and research missions across IU Health, Eskenazi Health, and VA facilities.

The role requires a record of leadership in a large health system, a strong scholarly background, and commitment to education and mentorship. This is a rare opportunity to shape a major academic medicine enterprise.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with board certification in internal medicine.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Indiana.
• Credentials for Associate Professor or Professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, tenure track eligibility welcomed but not required.
• Clinical activity in general internal medicine, primary care internal medicine, or hospital medicine.
• Progressive operational leadership within a large, complex academic or health system.
• Scholarship in education, general internal medicine, hospital medicine, or health services research.
• Demonstrated success in mentorship and faculty development.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic, clinical, financial, and operational leadership for the division across sites and sections.
• Lead efforts to define structure, culture, and strategic direction from the outset.
• Collaborate with IU Health, Eskenazi Health, VA, and Regenstrief to advance research and education.
• Oversee educational programs and faculty development activities.
• Report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine.
