Job summary

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is seeking a full-time Foster Care Specialist. You will arrange placements, oversee day-to-day foster care, and coordinate medical/behavioral care to support adoption.

You will work closely with the Foster Coordinator and volunteers to ensure smooth transitions between shelter, foster homes, and adoption. Responsibilities include maintaining foster records, scheduling, and communications, plus occasional hands-on care and transport.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in customer service, conflict resolution, scheduling, or coordinating.
• Knowledge of animal health and welfare; canine/feline behavior preferred.
• Must hold a Washington or Oregon driver’s license with insurable driving record.
• Euthanasia Technician Certification: certification within 6 months of employment; training provided.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings, and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Match animals with suitable foster homes and coordinate departures, veterinary visits, transportation, and supplies.
• Implement individualized care plans and ensure fostered animals receive appropriate medical care, socialization, and rehab for adoption.
• Provide hands-on foster support and hand off animals with clear instructions and supplies.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, escalating as needed.
• Coordinate records, scheduling, and communications in shelter databases.
