Job summary

Children's Aid is seeking a Parent Advocate to provide concrete support to parents as they engage with the agency to plan for their children in foster care. The role includes advocating for families, participating in planning meetings, and accompanying parents to necessary appointments.

The position offers collaboration with foster care units, with a focus on empowering parents to navigate services and plan for their children’s well-being. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience as a parent whose children were in foster care for at least 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Meet with parents at intake to Foster Care and act as a credible messenger of hope for parents planning for their children.
• Participate in case planning meetings or family team conferences and ITT meetings as a support to parents, providing insight, clarification, and emotional regulation.
• Meet with families during Family Time (Family Visiting) to encourage visits and help parents problem-solve obstacles to healthy time with their children.
• Accompany parents to service providers such as drug treatment, housing, mental health programs, or court as a source of encouragement and support.
• Coordinate with foster care team members to plan activities and outline efforts to move families toward discharge.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
