This is mostly hands-on deployment work: sitting with a healthcare billing team, learning how they do a task step by step, and turning that into clear rules an AI agent can follow. A strong candidate has a quantitative degree, thinks in systems, and can predict where a language model will do well or slip. Comfort reading logs and JSON matters more than writing production code, and being at ease with a revenue cycle director from the first meeting matters just as much.

AI agents now carry out the repetitive steps of billing work, so the job shifts toward designing, testing and supervising that work rather than doing it by hand. Much of the value comes from judging where a model is reliable, where it needs a guardrail, and when to hand a case to a person.
