Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition or related field with 5+ years in nutraceutical/pharma product development
  • Master's degree with 0-2 years in nutraceutical/pharma product development
  • Knowledge of product/process development, lab techniques, regulatory requirements, and basic sciences
  • Experience formulating, scaling up and commercializing solid dose formulations with hands-on lab work
  • Familiarity with formulas for tablets, capsules and powders and with SOPs, FDA regulations and cGMPs
  • Ability to evaluate material properties and finished product properties in formulations
  • Effective communication within cross-functional teams (manufacturing, operations, quality)
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management and software tools

Summary:

The Formulator, R&D is responsible for all aspects of the technical product and process development for solid dosage form (capsules, tablets, and powders). This role effectively utilizes standard best practices and procedures in product and process development. Supports technology advancements to drive innovation and point of difference for brands. Interfaces with Marketing, Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Quality, Purchasing and other cross-functional areas to accomplish project goals.

Your primary activities will include but are not limited to:

  • A successful formulator will have product ownership of innovative and existing formulas from formula ideation to commercialization
  • Formulator needs to develop prototype samples, plans for scale up batches for stability test, prepare product samples for stability test, stores and records samples in laboratory
  • Assures that materials used and materials manufactured meet written specifications for physical and chemical attributes necessary for product manufacture
  • Formulators keep all equipment and tools clean and in their proper storage area. Formulators must understand how to operate machinery including encapsulators, tablet presses, blenders, granulators, coaters, mills, etc.
  • Performs raw material evaluations, documents all data collected during testing and evaluates same for completeness and correctness
  • Performs and/or assists in all phases of R&D and product development activities. Processes lab benchwork, pilot batches, and scale up batches using scales, blenders, tablet presses, encapsulators, coaters, dry granulators, mills, etc.

You’ll need the following (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related field with 5+ years of product development in the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or related CPG industry
  • Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a related field with 0-2 of product development in the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or related CPG industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product / process development, processing laboratory techniques, regulatory requirements, and a firm foundation in basic sciences
  • Demonstrated success in formulating, scaling up and commercializing complex solid dose formulations, including hands-on lab experience
  • Must be familiar with the equipment and techniques used in formulation of tablets, capsules and powders.
  • Requires understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)
  • Must possess ability to evaluate physical and mechanical properties or raw materials to be used in formulations and the ability to objectively evaluate the resulting physical properties of the finished product
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate within a cross-functional team environment especially with manufacturing, operations, quality, and maintenance
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management and associated software tools

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position of $70,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education.
