PURPOSE: An effective Forklift Operator holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. Can work as a cohesive team and has the skill to identify problems and recommend improvements to provide quality, on time products to our customers. Utilizes a stand-up lift truck to move material, components, WIP and finished goods in a production setting.

1.0 DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follow all company safety guidelines, practices, and procedures. This includes the proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
  2. Operate lift truck in a safe manner to move material, as required, throughout the plant. Requires frequent movement on and off the lift truck to carry out tasks.
  3. Conducts a safety inspection before operating lift truck, notifies supervisor of any safety concerns.
  4. Maintain an accurate and constant flow of material to the operator and remove processed parts from the machines.
  5. Lift and move baskets of parts using a hand cart, pallet jack, electric mule or lift truck.
  6. Maintain equipment such as tape machine, stapler, utility knife, etc. Ability to lift and move totes of parts using a hand cart, pallet jack, electric mule or lift truck.
  7. Ability to manage the flow of boxes on the conveyor system and effectively troubleshoot issues with the automated palletizer.
  8. Palletize cartons on skids and move to appropriate areas.
  9. Conduct random inventory counts and stage product for shipment to outside vendors.
  10. Follow company policies and procedures.
  11. Always maintain cleanliness of equipment and workstation areas.
  12. Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  13. Targeted reduction in waste of all forms (time, materials, labor).
  14. Communicate effectively with supervisors, group leads and business unit managers.
  15. Creating and continually improving upon a culture of teamwork, accountability, and trust by modeling expectations and providing positive feedback to drive desired behaviors.
  16. Documenting and submitting performance reporting as required.
  17. Gaining knowledge and keeping up to date on safety and quality regulatory notices.
  18. Responsible for maintaining regular and reliable attendance and punctuality per company policies and procedures.
  19. Performing other duties, as assigned.

2.0 REQUIRED SKILL / ABILITIES

3.0 EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, GED or one-year equivalent experience required.
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Experience operating hand tools and a stand-up forklift a plus.
  • Capable of growing in knowledge and demonstrating competency in your job.

4.0 MENTAL / VISUAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Continuous mental and visual requirements when operating a lift truck.
  • Must be able to read process tags and recognize a variety of parts.
  • Must know sequence of machining processes.
  • Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to generate reporting documents and participate in team meetings.
  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
  • Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

5.0 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.   • Ability to stand while operating a lift truck for extended periods of time, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls
  • Reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear
  • Moderate to heavy physical labor required to lift and move cartons of parts
  • Ability to use and maintain equipment such as tape machine, stapler, etc.
  • Ability to lift and move parts using a hand cart, pallet jack, electric mule, or lift truck.
  • Associate will work in a production setting and may repeatedly/occasionally be required to perform repetitive work tasks
  • Use of hands and wrists continuously
  • Must be able to carry, push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and pulling of parts
  • Associate may need to be available for extended shift hours if needed and assist in emergency situations
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice, based on operational needs.

6.0 WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Due to the open environment of the building, must be able to work in various temperatures. Involves moderate or occasional presence of unfavorable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, noise, odor, chemicals, etc. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, heat protective sleeves, and safety shoes may be required in the area that you are working in based on our safety PPE standards.
