Summary: At Imperial, we sell, distribute, and service General Merchandise, Seasonal Products, and Health/Beauty/Wellness Products to our customers. As a Forklift Mechanic, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and repair of all forklifts, material handling equipment, and related machinery within the warehouse. The Forklift Mechanic will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, ensuring equipment operates optimally and minimizes downtime. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Include:
- Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
- Interpret manufacturer’s technical manuals for maintenance and repairs.
- Troubleshoot forklift problems including brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems, detect issues, safety concerns, and malfunctions.
- Diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
- Knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes.
- Work on electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Replace defective parts from stock or order replacements.
- Reassemble forklifts and make necessary adjustments.
- Complete tire, wheel, and battery maintenance.
- Perform safety inspections prior to forklift operation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure safety standards.
- Complete service documents and logs, both on paper and in CMMS software.
- Learn new technical information and techniques.
- Assist with other plant maintenance tasks, including conveyor systems.
- Weld steel using Stick and Mig processes (desirable).
- Communicate effectively with all organizational levels, suppliers, and customers.
- Complete daily work order updates and reports.
- Uphold high standards of housekeeping and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Use testing equipment and meters.
- Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of lead acid battery maintenance.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Power industrial truck certification.
- At least two years of related maintenance experience, including lift trucks up to 12,000 lbs.
- Manufacturing, automotive, military, or recent trade school background preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of industrial electricity up to 480 volts preferred.
- Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
- Ability to work safely and follow procedures.
