Job summary

Van-Hoekelen-Greenhouses, Inc. is seeking a skilled Forklift/Diesel Mechanic in Pennsylvania to diagnose, repair, and maintain forklifts, diesel engines, and heavy equipment. You will conduct on-site diagnostics, perform repairs to OEM standards, and ensure safe operation while meeting time guidelines.

The role requires 3+ years of diesel/heavy equipment experience, own tools, and strong safety and documentation habits. A customer-service mindset and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Diesel Service Technician or Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic preferred.
  • Experience working with forklifts, heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, or related industrial equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Forklift/Diesel Mechanic is responsible for accurately diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing forklifts, diesel-powered equipment, and other heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The mechanic will perform repairs safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Accurately diagnose vehicle and equipment problems based on complaints, inspections, and diagnostic testing.

  • Perform repairs and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer and factory standards.

  • Meet or exceed established standard repair time guidelines whenever reasonably possible.

  • Communicate effectively to obtain required parts and materials.

  • Immediately notify the manager if:

    • Additional repairs are required.

    • Repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.

    • Required parts are unavailable or delayed.

    • Any other discrepancies or concerns arise.



  • Accurately document all work performed and properly tag and account for replaced parts when necessary.

  • Road-test vehicles or equipment when necessary to verify repairs have been completed properly and safely.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Properly maintain and store all company-owned tools, equipment, manuals, and diagnostic materials.

  • Operate tools, machinery, diagnostic equipment, and other equipment safely and responsibly.

  • Report equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and potential safety hazards to management immediately.

  • Participate in OEM, manufacturer, and other training programs as directed by management.

  • Maintain current knowledge of manufacturer technical bulletins, repair procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Perform duties independently with minimal supervision and work effectively as part of a team.

  • Provide outstanding customer service and maintain professional working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and other company personnel.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Education and Experience


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Diesel Service Technician or Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic preferred.

  • Experience working with forklifts, heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, or related industrial equipment preferred.


Qualifications and Skills


  • Knowledgeable in the Heavy-Duty Truck and Diesel Equipment Industry.

  • Must provide and maintain a complete set of personal mechanic's tools appropriate for the position.

  • Ability to use basic diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting tools.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic diagnostic and service systems.

  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, service information, and repair instructions.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repair and maintenance assignments.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to safely lift, move, and work around heavy equipment and vehicle components.

  • Valid driver's license required, if applicable to job duties. CDL License preferred.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

The mechanic is expected to take ownership of assigned work, communicate issues promptly, and maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
