Job summary

The Appalachian Mountain Club seeks an Operations Forester based in Greenville, ME to oversee daily operations on AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative lands. You will coordinate road maintenance, supervise timber harvests with contractors, and collaborate with the Land Department to advance multi-year forestry projects.

Ideal candidates have a forestry degree, Maine licensure or eligibility, 3–5 years of field experience, and GIS proficiency for planning and mapping.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related natural-resource field.
Licensed forester in Maine or ability to obtain licensure.
3–5 years of operational forest experience.
Experience overseeing forest road maintenance and project design.
Familiarity with GIS for mapping and planning.

Responsibilities

Coordinate road projects and maintenance on AMC’s 400+ mile road network following BMPs.
Oversee timber harvests with contractors to meet silvicultural objectives.
Support multi-year timber harvest planning and road/bridge project planning.
Collaborate with local partners on road maintenance, construction, and crossings.
Assist with layout for commercial and pre-commercial forestry projects.
Develop and manage road and bridge/structure inventories.
File and data manage MWI infrastructure project records.
Oversee road construction contract administration and inspections.
